START UP CHECK LIST AA-5B

Before we start we need to carry out an internal check!
- Internal Check:
On entering the aircraft, check flaps up, turn off the fuel, then adjust the
seats and seat belts and check the passengers do likewise. Turn the master
switch on and check all electrical instruments and required lighting is
operational. Check the instrument panel from left to right making sure the
radios are off, the controls are free, trim operative and set neutral. Check
circuit breakers in.
- START UP
Brakes......ON mixture Full rich
Carburettor Heat......OFF
Fuel......ON
Prime......As required
Master/Altemator Switch . ON
Flaps......UP
Auxiliary Fuel Pump.....ON check pressure OFF
Propeller......Clear
Ignition......ON LEFT
Throttle......Open '/4" travel approximately
Starter Button...Press, release when engine starts
Ignition......ON BOTH
Oil Pressure......Check, if no pressure within 30 seconds - shut down
Auxillory fuelpump off

Engine......Warm up at 1 000 to 1200 RPM
Avoid prolonged idling on the Ground, Lean Mixture while Taxi.
- PRE TAKE OFF CHECKS
On reaching the holding bay, turn the aircraft much as possible into
wind, or at least 45'
into wind across the taxiway.
B - Brakes ON
U - Undercarriage Locked Down
T - Trim Set for take off
Throttle Set 1000 RPM
M - Mixture Rich
Master ON
F - Fuel On fullest tank
Fuel pump On check for pressure then OFF
Flaps: Check then set UP
I - Instruments Check and set (flight instruments)
C - Controls ................ Free, full movement
Carb- Heat Cold
H - Harness Secure
Hatches Locked
E - Engine Run up to 1800 RPM Check engine
instruments and gauges , magnetos (1 75 max, 50 between) Carby heat
check.
Return engine to 1 000 RPM. Check all switches ON . Obtain take - off
clearance transponder ON if required
- TAKEOFF
Normal take off
Auxiliary Fuel Pump ON
Anti Collision Beacon ON
Transponder ON If requied
Check RPM for take-off airspeed
CROSSWIND Take off
As above but before commencing Takeoff check wind direction and start
initial takeoff with aileron into wind.
